The stresses in the healthcare industry, and in radiology in particular, continue to grow: mergers and acquisitions, staffing, utilization, reimbursement, credentialing, safety, reporting, data management...the list is endless. Administrators and managers are being asked to do more with less, patients are demanding better outcomes, and emerging technologies, especially in radiology, are exploding — all in the face of declining resources. But, these challenges create opportunities. While management skills are critical to success, never has there been a time when exceptional leadership and communication skills have been so essential to patient care and satisfaction.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of the activity, participants should be better able to:

• Develop strategies to address radiology staffing issues to improve patient care
• Develop and maintain a patient-centered work environment through continuous team-building and coaching
• Identify resources for managing and mitigating patient and staff safety concerns
• Develop strategies to eliminate waste and increase staff efficiency while maintaining high patient satisfaction
• Identify imaging metrics and measures to improve productivity, efficiency, and patient outcomes

CONTINUING EDUCATION
This program has been submitted to the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) for 8.0 hours of ARRT Category A continuing education credit.

HOW TO RECEIVE CREDIT
In accordance with American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) requirements, you must attend the entire course to receive credit.

1. Login to your account at www.icpme.us and click on the course title.
2. Click the Evaluation tab on the left, complete the evaluation, and submit.
3. Click the Certificate tab on the left, select the certificate type desired, download and print.

Once you have printed your certificate, it will remain in your online account at as a permanent record of credits earned.

Greg Pilat, MBA

In September 2019, Greg Pilat retired as the System Director of Radiology for Advocate Aurora Health, a 27 hospital, non-for-profit, integrated healthcare delivery network, headquartered in Downers Grove, Illinois and Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  Mr. Pilat’s career spanned more than 45 years of imaging, business, and management experience. 

Mr. Pilat brings with him a strong background in imaging management and administration, imaging informatics, project management, and operations improvement. Over the course of his career, Mr. Pilat aggressively supported an expanding role for imaging leaders, the need for talent identification and programs that foster leadership development, the critical need to improve imaging safety, and the evolving methods we use to communicate at all levels in a digital environment.

Mr. Pilat's continuing professional interest include a deeper understanding of success factors and attributes of successful leaders, identifying the relevant factors shaping management and organizational decision-making.  Mr. Pilat is currently studying the challenges and opportunities of providing afforded by the shift from acute care to non-acute care and the unique challenges and factors providing imaging in rural areas.

Layne C. Mitchell, MBA, RT(R)(CT)

Layne Mitchell recently transitioned to the position of Executive Director of Diagnostic Imaging at the Northeast Georgia Health System, with oversite of four hospitals and four imaging centers.

Prior to his move to Northeast Georgia Health System, Mr. Mitchell was employed for more than 25 years with Georgia Regents (Augusta State University and Georgia Health Sciences University), assuming multiple levels of responsibility.

Mr. Mitchell has received several awards, including the Employee Ambassador Award in 2006, the Superior Employee Award in 2011, and the Outstanding Community Service Award in 2016. He most recently served as President of the Association of Administrators in Academic Radiology (AAARAD) and previously served as a Patient Reviewer for Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) and as a Patient Experience Operations Committee member.

He is a member of several professional societies, including the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT), Radiology Business Management Association (RBMA), and the Association for Medical Imaging Management (AHRA).

Mr. Mitchell is passionate about creating a positive patient experience in the radiology suite and deploying LEAN processes to improve all aspects of everyday operations.
