Everyone expects to enter the healthcare system and be kept safe.  Unfortunately, the delivery of imaging services included many areas where our processes can contribute to safety events that can result in harm, disability and death.  This session will review some of the Imaging related safety data and discuss what, as Imaging professionals we can do minimize harm to patients, visitors and staff.  The session will also briefly describe some common metrics used to monitor, report and improve Imaging related safety events.

Upon completion of this activity, participants will have increased knowledge regarding:

  • The most common types of imaging safety events
  • Who has responsibility for improving safety in the imaging environment
  • Where should we first focus our attention, if anywhere
  • Why improving safety is important to both the patient and the institution

This activity has been aproved by the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) for 1.0 hour of ARRT Category A continuing education credit.

  1. To receive credit, each participant must attend the entire session.
  2. Upon verification of your participation, you will receive an email from ICPME two weeks after the event with instructions to print your certificate of credit. You will not be able to print your certificate until that time.
