LECTURE OVERVIEW
Everyone expects to enter the healthcare system and be kept safe.  Unfortunately, the delivery of imaging services included many areas where our processes can contribute to safety events that can result in harm, disability and death.  This session will review some of the Imaging related safety data and discuss what, as Imaging professionals we can do minimize harm to patients, visitors and staff.  The session will also briefly describe some common metrics used to monitor, report and improve Imaging related safety events.  

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this activity, participants will have increased knowledge regarding:

  • The most common types of imaging safety events
  • Who has responsibility for improving safety in the imaging environment
  • Where should we first focus our attention, if anywhere 
  • Why improving safety is important to both the patient and the institution

ACCREDITATION AND CREDIT
This activity has been aproved by the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) for 1.0 hour of ARRT Category A continuing education credit.


HOW TO RECEIVE ARRT CREDIT

  1. To receive credit, each participant must attend the entire session.
  2. Upon verification of your participation, you will receive an email from ICPME two weeks after the event with instructions to print your certificate of credit. You will not be able to print your certificate until that time.
  3. Your certificate of credit will remain in your account at www.icpme.us as a permanent record of your participation.

Prior to September 2019, Greg Pilat currently served as System Director for Radiology at Advocate Aurora Health in Downer’s Grover, IL. He has more than 40 years of medical imaging technical, business, and management experience. 

Mr. Pilat brings with him a strong background in imaging management, imaging informatics, project management and operations standardization. In addition to providing overall direction and strategic planning for imaging services, he was responsible for the development and monitoring of system level quality and performance metrics, improvements in imaging safety, risk reduction strategies, and overall customer and service delivery satisfaction scores. Mr. Pilat’s accountabilities included the standardization of imaging equipment and supplies, contracted and professional services, and imaging-related IT systems across the enterprise.  

Mr. Pilat retired in September 2019 and researching imaging issues related to population health, access to care, and technical and professional staffing. Mr. Pilat has had a life-long interest in the areas of career and leadership development, education and learning as a continuous life-long activity.
