Course Overview
Stereotactic breast biopsy is routinely used for mammography-detected breast lesions requiring tissue diagnosis. Accuracy of percutaneous image-guided breast biopsy has been improved through the use of stereotactic guidance for non-palpable masses, obviating the need for a surgical procedure and causing less discomfort and minimal risk to the patient and cost savings to the healthcare practice.

This course provides a brief overview of the clinical indications for performing stereotactic breast biopsy. Faculty will share cases that cover controversial lesions.

Educational Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

• Identify clinical indications for stereotactic breast biopsy
• Discuss the challenges and pitfalls of performing stereotactic breast biopsy
• Select the appropriate biopsy technique and device
• Describe how to manage risk to the patient before, during, and after the procedure

Faculty Biography
Dr. Leung graduated from Harvard University summa cum laude with a degree in biology and completed her medical degree at Harvard Medical School. She received her radiology residency and women’s imaging fellowship training at University of California San Francisco (UCSF) Medical Center. Dr. Leung has held academic positions at Harvard Medical School and UCSF and has lectured extensively in the field of breast imaging both nationally and internationally. Currently Dr. Leung is the Medical Director of the Breast Health Center at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco, a community-based comprehensive breast imaging center performing 50,000 examinations each year.

She has served on committees within major professional organizations, including American College of Radiology, American Roentgen Ray Society, and Society of Breast Imaging. Dr. Leung was awarded the Hideyo Minagi Outstanding Teacher Award at UCSF in 2007. Dr. Leung’s research interest includes outcomes analysis in breast imaging.
