Course Overview
The combination of positron emission tomography (PET) and computed tomography (CT) is increasingly relied upon for evaluating and managing patients with cancer and has demonstrated greater diagnostic accuracy when compared to PET alone.[1] PET/CT imaging combines metabolic function with an anatomic road map to locate and discriminate normal from abnormal tissue.

This case-based lecture will address the benefits and challenges of PET/CT of body imaging and how to distinguish between benign and malignant tissue.

Educational Objectives
After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:

• Describe the benefits of body PET/CT for oncologic imaging
• Discuss how PET/CT imaging is used for patients with suspected or confirmed malignancy
• Differentiate between benign and malignant tissue on PET/CT images of the body

Faculty
Mukesh G. Harisinghani, MD

After finishing medical school at Grant Medical College at the University of Bombay, Dr. Harisinghani completed his residency in radiology at Massachusetts General Hospital, where he currently serves as Director of Abdominal Imaging. He also serves as Section Editor for Genitourinary Radiology for the American Journal of Roentgenology (AJR).

His clinical expertise is in MR applications within the abdomen and pelvis. While Dr. Harisinghani’s primary clinical interests are in abdominal and pelvic MR imaging, Dr. Harisinghani has also been involved in the development and application of novel molecular markers for early staging of tumors and evaluating inflammation using magnetic nanoparticles.

Dr. Harisinghani has authored or coauthored over 150 scientific papers and has edited five books in his areas of interest.
