Course Overview
Expertise in ultrasound breast imaging and ultrasound-guided biopsy is essential for accurate clinical diagnosis and safe, efficient tissue sampling. Lesion characterization using adjunct tools such as shear-wave elastography may even reduce the need for biopsy. This webinar includes discussion of the clinical indications for diagnostic breast ultrasound imaging; appropriate use of adjunct technical tools such as elastography to optimize the examination; and tips for reducing false positive biopsies prompted by ultrasound.

Educational Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

  • Identify clinical indications for diagnostic US imaging
  • Choose appropriate adjunct tools to optimize the diagnostic US examination, including elastography
  • Reduce false positive biopsies prompted by ultrasound

Dr. Berg is Professor of Radiology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine; and an acclaimed researcher, teacher, and lecturer in the field of breast imaging.

Dr. Berg was the principal investigator of the 21-center American College of Radiology Imaging Network Protocol 6666 investigating the role of adding screening ultrasound or MRI to mammography in women with dense breasts at elevated risk for breast cancer. She also led a prospective multicenter trial of dedicated breast PET and performed analysis of a prospective international multicenter trial of shear-wave elastography.  For these efforts, she was named “Most Influential Radiology Researcher” by AuntMinnie.com in both 2010 and 2012 and she received the 2012 Avon Foundation Global Breast Cancer Medical Achievement Award and the 2013 Pathfinder Award from the American Society of Breast Disease.
