Multimodality Breast Biopsy and
Tomosynthesis Interpretation

A Hands-on Workshop

Saturday - Sunday / September 20-21, 2014
The David Ellenbogen Center for Health Sciences Education
Bedford, MA

A two-day workshop led by expert faculty and intended for breast imaging physicians and advanced-level radiologic technologists who wish to hone their biopsy and tomosynthesis interpretation skills.

Format: Live Seminar
MD Credit:  14.5 AMA PRA Category 1 credits

RT Credit:   14.5 ARRT Category A+ credits

Overview
Although stereotactic breast biopsy has become the standard of care for patients in whom screening reveals breast lesions suggestive of malignancy, digital breast tomosynthesis, MRI, and ultrasound-guided biopsy have gained a place in the breast biopsy armamentarium.

This workshop will give learners an opportunity to plan and practice breast biopsies in a clinical setting. Participants will also have a unique opportunity to learn about and practice newly approved digital breast tomosynthesis-guided biopsy. Expert faculty will offer suggestions on how to avoid complications and detail how to achieve technical success even in the most challenging cases.

In addition to the education on modality-specific tissue sampling, learners will also have the opportunity to interpret cases on digital breast tomosynthesis workstations, partially fulfilling the FDA requirement of training in DBT interpretation.

Educational Objectives
At the conclusion of this workshop, participants should be better able to:

  • Describe the benefits and challenges of ultrasound,DBT-, and MRI-guided breast biopsy
  • Apply standard techniques to reliably obtain a diagnostic tissue sample when performing image-guided biopsy
  • Develop a systematic strategy for interpreting breast tomosynthesis images to improve diagnostic accuracy|
