This one-day workshop is intended for breast imaging physicians who require training in breast tomosynthesis interpretation and will fulfill the FDA-mandated requirement for 8 hours of training in digital breast tomosynthesis.

This activity qualifies for 8.0 hours of training for the Hologic Selenia® Dimensions® 3D Mammography™ System

Overview
This 8-hour course for physicians will focus on building skills in interpreting digital breast tomosynthesis. Faculty will provide the fundamentals to guide participants as they work through the hands-on portion of the curriculum. Clinical work stations will be provided for participants to review 100 verified tomosynthesis studies with correlating 2D mammography, ultrasound, MRI and pathology, if performed.

This course will fulfill the FDA-mandated training requirement for 8 hours of training in digital breast tomosynthesis and provide participants the opportunity to discuss clinical and implementation issues with expert faculty.

Educational Objectives
At the conclusion of this course, participants should be better able to:

  • Evaluate the potential role of DBT as a complementary imaging modality for screening and diagnostic patients
  • Develop a systematic strategy to interpret breast tomosynthesis images and improve diagnostic accuracy
  • Consider the operational and educational issues of integrating tomosynthesis into the clinical practice

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint sponsorship of Postgraduate Institute for Medicine (PIM) and the International Center for Postgraduate Medical Education (ICPME). PIM is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Credit Designation
Postgraduate Institute for Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 8.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.  Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Cancellation Policy
All cancellations must be received in writing or email. Refunds requested FOUR WEEKS in advance of the start of the course will be issued for the amount of tuition paid less a $75 processing fee. No refunds will be made for cancellations received within four weeks of the start of the course.

Faculty Biographies

Jules H. Sumkin, DO, FACR
Dr. Sumkin is Professor and UPMC Endowed Chair of Women's Imaging and Chief of Radiology at the Magee-Women’s Hospital of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

Dr. Sumkin completed his bachelor’s degree at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and medical degree in osteopathy at Ohio University, Athens. Dr. Sumkin completed a rotating internship at Doctor’s Hospital, Columbus, Ohio. He also completed a residency at Mt. Sinai Hospital, Cleveland, Ohio, and a fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

Dr. Sumkin’s professional memberships include the American Roentgen Ray Society, the Society of Breast Imaging, and the Radiological Society of North America. He is also an elected fellow of the American College of Radiology.

Dr. Sumkin has published over 70 articles in scientific journals, including Radiology, Medical Physics, American Journal of Roentgenology, and Journal of Surgical Oncology. He has authored a number of invited papers, proceedings, books, and chapters, and has spoken widely in his areas of expertise.

Dr. Sumkin serves on the editorial board of Reports in Medical Imaging and on the international editorial board of Journal of Breast Health
 

Margarita L. Zuley, MD
Dr. Zuley is an Associate Professor of Radiology at the University of Pittsburgh and the Medical Director of Breast Imaging at Magee-Women's Hospital. She completed her residency at University of Pittsburgh Medical College and her fellowship training at Magee-Women's Hospital.

Dr. Zuley sits on several committees for the American College of Radiology, the American Board of Radiology, and the Society of Breast Imaging. She also serves as a reviewer for NIH grants and as a consultant to the FDA Radiologic Devices Panel.

Active areas of research currently include new technology evaluation, including digital breast tomosynthesis and cone beam CT. Dr. Zuley is currently the principal investigator on grants from the Susan G. Komen Foundation and from industry to investigate these new technologies.
