Course Overview
Now that digital breast tomosynthesis has become a well-established breast imaging modality, radiologists are confronted with selecting the appropriate imaging choice from an even wider array of screening and diagnostic tools. This educational activity will describe how generated 2D images are reconstructed from tomosynthesis data, and will compare and contrast full field digital imaging to generated 2D images.

Educational Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

  • Evaluate the potential role of digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) for enhancing the screening and diagnosis of breast disease
  • Identify the types of patients who many benefit from DBT
  • Explain the technological and clinical differences between full field digital imaging, generated 2D images, and DBT

ACCME Accreditation Statement
This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint sponsorship of Postgraduate Institute for Medicine and International Center for Postgraduate Medical Education. The Postgraduate Institute for Medicine is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
