Course Description

Liver disease is common and encompasses a range of benign and malignant entities. Medical imaging with a variety of modalities is often critical for the diagnosis and management of hepatobiliary diseases. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has the capability to both detect and characterize many focal and diffuse diseases of the liver and bile ducts and is assuming a greater role in the diagnosis and management of liver disease.

This course will provide practical, clinically-oriented lectures with interactive case review to establish imaging techniques and strategies to perform improve the quality of liver MRI exams.

Educational Objectives and Outcomes

At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be more confident to:
  • Assess the role of individual pulse sequences to develop a comprehensive liver MRI protocol
  • Develop strategies to reduce artifacts and to image the non-cooperative patient
  • Consistently characterize and identify the appearance of benign and malignant focal diseases of the liver and bile ducts on MRI
  • Monitor the appearance of liver lesions following surgical or therapeutic treatment using MR imaging
